Knob Thorn

ACACIA NIGRESCENS, commonly known as KNOB THORN due to the knobby protrusions on the trunk.

Tree

A tree description

Medium sized to large tree up to 20 metres tall and 70 cm bore.

Widespread, gregarious at hot low altitudes

Timber

ACACIA NIGRESCENS.  Air and kiln dried.

Also known as Giraffe Thorn due to the way they (carefully) eat the seed pods from this tree.

The timber is reddish brown with a very fine, dense texture.

It looks something like a dark Iroko if you know this timber, but is better for turning and fine detail. Ideal for boxes and spindle work.
