Tree

Stunted to large tree up to 20 metres, often a dominant of extensive areas of the hot, dry Lowveld on rocky basalt and sodic soils.

 

 

Timber

Heartwood; a uniform dark red brown heartwood which is generally streaked with black, sapwood; straw colored. A hard timber that sandpapers well, takes varnishes, oils well and glues well. Tools need to be kept sharp, It is used for furniture, railway sleepers, turnery, flooring and musical Instruments.
